Greetings, G-Force.
7-3. With one outlandishly poorly played half, the Packers relinquished control of the NFC. Because of it, not only will the Packers have to win games, but they’ll also have to scoreboard watch. This year, more than ever, the #1 sees is absolutely coveted. Only one team will get a bye. At halftime, the Packers were in the pole position. But, after 30 minutes of football misery, the Packers were dethroned with 6 games to play.
As I write, I sip a Weldwerks One Big Holiday. A Triple IPA. 11%. Hop heavy. It packs a punch. I listen to Culture’s Humble African album. Roots Reggae warms the soul.
Here are my quick vibes from the last week:
Matt LaFleur has set high expectations for himself. So, when we see the offense sputtered like they did in the 3rd Qtr, it feels odd. I don’t understand why LaFleur stopped with the motion + disguise to start the 3rd. Looked fairly predictable from a normally sparkling mind.
Aaron Rodgers has been sensational in 2020. His personality is shining brightly. He’s been accurate. He’s been wise. One has to fancy that he wants two plays back from the Colts game: first, the interception and secondly, the final pass of regulation. On the interception, it was 1st and 20. Adams was running free across the middle of the field and would’ve picked up at least 10 yards. Instead, he was fooled by the coverage. I was surprised that Rodgers didn’t take the easy play. And, on the final play of regulation, if Rodgers had gone to his second read across the field, he’d have thrown a game winner to Tonyan.
Aaron Jones has been relatively quiet for two weeks in a row.
Davante Adams is marvelous.
I wonder how much Linsley’s back issues played a part in the botched snap?
Speaking of Linsley, I can’t imagine a scenario in which he will be back next year. I don’t see how the Packers can afford him. He will be greatly missed. In Jenkins last week, we saw his likely replacement.
Jon Runyan is a good football player.
Felt bad for MVS. He played a really good football game.
How is Darrius Shepherd on this football team? Liked seeing that Tavon Austin was brought in for a tryout. He’d be a major upgrade.
Big Bob Tonyan is earning himself a paycheck.
Good to see Lazard in action.
Spectacular play design on the pass to ESB.
Jace Sternberger is quietly looking more comfortable in this offense.
How does LaFleur tolerate Pettine’s consistent decision to have Preston Smith dropping in coverage? At some point, LaFleur has to assume some responsibility. Pettine continuously makes the same mistakes. He plays soft in coverage. His teams often drop into a ridiculously predictable zone coverage. Pettine comes with a 3-man rush. In these scenarios, he’s constantly getting burned! At what point, do they just line up and play man-to-man football? I like a lot of the players on this defense.
Raven Greene!
The near sack by Za’Darius. Hmmm. Awfully close. My biased eye thought the ball was loose and that he pushed it forward with his fingers. Wishful thinking, I know. But, I was certainly hoping that the call on the field would stand. Probably a bad take though.
Once again, the Packers defense was mostly unable to stop the run.
Jaire was one step away from a pick 6 that would’ve lived large for many years.
Nice to see Kenny Clark grabbing a sack.
Was happy for Kirksey on his interception.
I appreciate Matt LaFleur’s aggressiveness. I really do. But, on 4th and 1 with 3:15 left, you kick the FG to tie the game.
I’ll forever be curious as to why Rodgers spiked the ball with 43 seconds left from the 15 yard line.
This week - it’s the hated Bears traveling to Lambeau on Sunday Night Football. Thankfully, the weather shouldn’t play much of a factor. Temperatures are expected to be around 35 degrees with a light wind and no precipitation.
After starting 5-1, the Bears have lost 4 in a row. They’re reeling and on the ropes. A Packers win this weekend might send the Bears tumbling even further.
The Bears are a dangerous team this weekend. Trubisky will be back under Center. He’s auditioning for a new opportunity next year.
Ryan Pace and Matt Nagy have their back against the wall. If they miss the playoffs this year, there could be a significant change at the top for the Bears this offseason.
Fear can be a great motivator. And, desperate teams are dangerous teams. The Bears will show some trickery this weekend. Will it be a fake punt? An onside kick? A fake FG? A RB or WR pass? A flea flicker? I expect the Bears to pull out all of the stops.
Trubisky has all of the tools. In fact, I wouldn’t mind if he were with the Packers next year. But, Trubisky is still raw. If you keep him in the pocket, he won’t beat you. When Trubisky can roll to his right, he can make plays. He can also beat you with his legs as a runner. The Packers will need to spy Trubisky all game. I’d do so with either Greene or Martin.
Jimmy Graham will want to have a big game. After a couple of disappointing years in Green Bay, Graham has played well in Chicago.
The Packers cannot let Cordarrelle Patterson beat them as a Kick Returner.
With Robinson, Mooney and Miller; the Bears have three capable WR’s. Cole Kmet is a highly talented rookie TE.
The Bears OL has been a problem area. Starting Tackle, Charles Leno, has been banged up. The Packers DL has to dominate the line of scrimmage.
The Bears defense is spectacular. But, the Packers might catch a break if Akiem Hicks can’t go. Hicks is the heartbeat of the locker room. He trashes people. He’s hurt with a hamstring injury and might not play.
The Bears defense flies around the field with Khalil Mack, Mingo, Robert Quinn, Roquan Smith, and Danny Trevathan at LB.
Brent Urban has become a monster at DT.
Their secondary continues to play great football. Eddie Jackson remains an elite play making safety. Kyle Fuller is a shutdown CB. Jaylon Johnson has had a promising rookie year. I like his game a lot. He’s big, he’s long and he can play the football. He’s a grabber and must be attacked though. Buster Skrine has played better than I anticipated for the Bears. Tashaun Gipson has also been a good addition.
This Bears defense will play with great fight. They will be active and look to force turnovers. They'll bring inside pressure to knock Rodgers off of his spot.
I have to believe that the Packers offense has more firepower than the Bears do. I also have to believe that the Packers defense delivers a top tier performance, their best of 2020.

My Take -> Week 11
Greetings, G-Force.
7-2. Just win, baby. The Packers played without energy for most of the Jaguars game. Still, they managed to come away victorious. With the W, the Packers find themselves perched atop the NFC as we have skipped past the midway point of the season.
As I write, I casually sip an aged Sin Frontera. A collaboration beer by Crooked Stave, Jester King and Trois Dames Cerveza. It’s a clean, light sipping wild beer. Grape wine-like goodness. I listen to Lou Donaldson’s “Say It Loud” album. One of the small pleasures of 2020 is that I’ve been able to dig deep into the old library of music that I haven’t listened to in ages. I dig this album.
Here are my quick vibes from the last week:
The Matt LaFleur and Aaron Rodgers combination has brought great joy to the 2020 season. Last week, they brought frustration as the team was unable to find a rhythm.
Aaron Rodgers didn’t look like himself last week. He still went 24/34 for 325 yards, 2 TDs and 1 interception. He’s firmly in the MVP race. I’d almost argue that he should be the Leader in the race.
Rashan Gary turned beastly to close out that game. Saved the victory. Let’s see that more often!
Davante Adams’ leaping grab for the game winning grab was magnificent. He went go-go-gadget left calf to get up and grab that one.
MVS. What an enigma, he is. Without him, the Packers don’t win that game. At times, he looks like he can’t play in the league. And, then, on other occasions, he looks like he has the prospects to be a legit #3 WR.
Really good to see Adrian Amos make that interception.
I can’t make out what the Packers have at ILB. They clearly like Kirksey’s leadership and system know-how. But, for my eye, it feels like Barnes and Martin are better players. Barnes and Martin attack, while Kirksey seems to be more finesse.
Felt like Ka’dar Hollman showed well.
Za’Darius has been making a play each week to get the Packers defense off the field, it seems.
Another solid game from Preston Smith.
MVS. Peace, dude.
It’s time for Savage to force a turnover to swing a game.
I don’t trust Josh Jackson as a punt returner.
This team was lethargic for most of the game. Annoyingly so. We aren’t accustomed to seeing the Packers win games like that. A treat to have that one behind us.
The Gold Zone! Forget the Red Zone. The Packers have the Gold Zone. The vibes on this team are plenty.
Congrats to Bakhtiari! Stoked he will be locking down the left side of the line for years to come.
Speaking of contracts: Remember when people used to give the Packers home town discounts to stick around? Would be great if Aaron Jones and Corey Linsley would do so.
This week - it’s the Colts. In Indianapolis. With fans.
The Colts will be a tough task for the Packers. The Packers don’t match up well with them. It feels like a similar match up to the Buccaneers game. On the road. Veteran QB. Stout defense. The difference: we know Xavier Rhodes cannot cover Davante, the Colts don’t have the Buccaneers play makers on offense and you’d like to think that the Packers can force turnovers this weekend.
Jonathan Taylor is a good back. I’d like to think that the Packers will force him to fumble this weekend.
Rivers has torched the Packers with crossing routes. I’d like to think Kevin King will pick him off this weekend.
Will the Packers be able to cover the Colts TE’s? Doyle and Alie-Cox are seriously underrated. If you don’t know Alie-Cox, my guess is that you’ll become very familiar with him on Sunday afternoon.
This game will be decided at the line of scrimmage. If the Colts dominate the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball like they often do, the Packers are in trouble. DeForest Buckner is a tough matchup. So, is Justin Houston. The Packers must be able to block them. Additionally, the Colts OL has been a physical nightmare for opposing defenses. Kenny Clark, Dean Lowry, and the Smith Bros. must earn their big pay days this weekend.
In many ways, we will find out if the Packers are contenders or pretenders this weekend. They’ve been able to win with high-flying, fashion-forward playcalling. But, can they win a game that will require brute strength at the line of scrimmage?
I’m expecting a grueling battle. Both teams looking to grab long, clock-eating drives. Both teams looking for underneath routes followed by yards after the catch. Both teams staying patient with the run. A tough game throughout.
In the end, the difference is turnovers. I trust the Packers to protect the ball. I don’t trust the Colts to do so.

My Take -> Week 10
Greetings, G-Force.
6-2. Once again, it was nice to see the LaFleur and Rodgers combo amaze. But, the most exciting thing for my eye was to see the defense forcing turnovers. Sometimes, turnovers can come in bundles. Let’s hope that destruction of a depleted 49ers team brings some turnover mojo.
As I write, I sip a Guinness. Sometimes, it’s just fun to go back to the roots. I listen to the Grateful Dead’s Record Store Day 5/9/77 release.
My quick vibes from the last week:
Matt LaFleur. Count your blessings, Packers fans.
Aaron Rodgers. Leader. Playing like an MVP.
Davante Adams. Exceptional body control. His catch on 4th and inches with just over 9 minutes left in the 2nd Qtr in a 7-3 game was beyond magnificent.
Aaron Jones is bred differently. His body control never ceases to amaze me.
Solid game from Billy Turner.
I hope the Wagner injury isn’t serious. If so, I hope Gutekunst has Jared Veldheer’s number on speed dial to convince him to come out of retirement.
When Runyan has played, he’s held up well.
Rodgers first half stats: 13/18, 149 yds, 3 TD’s, 0 interceptions.
Happy for Preston Smith. He didn’t show up with monstrous numbers in the box score, but he was a difference maker.

Tyler Ervin might be better in disguise than he is as a playmaker. His presence forces the defense to react differently as he has to be accounted for.

Big Dog with the TD. Epic play design. The post TD celebration was ridiculously grand. It was defining of everyone’s relationship with him. First to get there was his little bro Big Bob Tonyan who couldn’t have been more happy for him. Big Bob Tonyan sprinted to him and jumped into him in kid-like fashion. Next was each of the Offensive Lineman yelling at him and banging into him him in fraternity fashion. Then, it was Aaron Jones jogging to him with and greeting him with a tough guy teammate-style high five and head butt. Finally, it was Aaron Rodgers as his business partner walking up to him with a wide smile and a hand shake. I fucking love the bond in this locker room.
Props to FOX for consistently playing the Dead, Phish and WSP on the way to commercial breaks.
I love Corey Linsley. Gonna miss him when he’s gone.
Big Bob Tonyan is a difference maker in this offense. He has many big plays awaiting him.
I say this playfully: Matt LaFleur does a terrific job of designing plays to draw Ted Thompson’s acquisitions wide open.
I trust Ervin, Jones and Williams as receivers more than I do ESB and MVS. That’s tough to swallow.
I hope Seth Roberts and Aaron Rodgers are spending immense amount of time together right now.
Packers fans, please don’t take this for granted. It was 14-3 with 5:26 to play in the 2nd Qtr. The game still felt competitive. Aaron Rodgers could smell blood. How did he lead an 87 yard TD drive. Well, he stared at 3rd and 5 from his own 18 and he was the smartest man on the field. He went no-huddle and he moved the sticks by noticing that SF still had 12 men on the field. First down, Packers. Then, on 3rd and 6 from his 27, on a busted play, Rodgers was nimble enough to use his legs to pick up the necessary yardage. First down, Packers. Finally, the communication on this team was on full display at the 2:00 warning. LaFleur and Rodgers discussed a shot play to MVS. They confirmed with MVS that he wanted the opportunity. Boom! 52-yard TD. 21-3, Packers. All gas, no fuckin’ breaks.
Oh, wait. One more. How about the play call with less than 12:00 left in the 3rd. The 1st 3rd down of the 2nd half. You know LaFleur and Rodgers discussed this play. You know that SF watched TB jump the out pass on 3rd down to Adams earlier this year. So, what is the call? A double move to Adams out of a similar look to the play a couple of weeks earlier. Rodgers even telegraphed it by stating it down pre-snap. 49 yards. Bang! Shortly after, Rodgers hits MVS on a busted play in the corner of the end zone. I love the brains behind this offense.
Was sad to see Dexter Williams go down with what appears to be a serious injury. I really liked him coming out of college. He hasn’t panned out. I was super interested to see how Gutekunst replaced him. He has done well in this fashion previously with additions like Veldheer, Lazard and Ervin. And, this time, Gutekunst has turned to Mike Weber. I had studied him thoroughly coming out of college and here’s what I wrote: “Undersized, but powerful. Dynamite receiving option. He'll make the first person miss in the open field. Plays with both speed and quickness. Runs with great hunger. Bounces off of tackles. He beats defenders to the spot and grabs yards in bundles. Isn't going to be a consistent between the tackles runner. Fumbles too much.”
Wish the Packers would've brought T-Mon back. Wanted him to retire as a Packer.
Halfway through the season and Aaron Rodgers leads the NFL in passer rating.
Yes, it's worth mentioning again, I'm eager to see Lazard back on the field.
With Kirksey on the brink of recovery and Martin activated from the COVID list, Pettine has a choice to make. Barnes has played well. Martin has been intriguing. I’m going to closely monitor how Pettine utilizes his rotation at ILB.
This week - it’s the Jags. At Lambeau. Weather is expected to play a factor. Normally, you’d anticipate that poor weather would benefit the Packers. Not in 2020. The Jaguars aren’t even on the same platform as the Packers. In normal conditions, Green Bay would win by more than 20. But, with heavy winds and precipitation on the horizon, this game plays into Jacksonville’s hands and therefore, the game might be much closer than any of us expect. Granted, there’s almost no way I can see the Jaguars coking into Green Bay and stealing a victory with a back up QB. But, it’s important to recognize that Jacksonville can run the football and Green Bay has shown that they’re extremely vulnerable against the run.
Look for Pettine to stuff the box. He’s going to dare Jacksonville to throw the ball. And, don’t be surprised if early on, the Jags call a play action deep ball to try and take advantage of an early down run blitz. Expect Jacksonville to be a little more aggressive on a couple of occasions than one might normally think.
The Jaguars are bringing Jake Luton into town to take on Aaron Rodgers. That should be all you need to know.
The Packers will need to account for Josh Allen as a pass rusher, but if that mission is accomplished, I'm feeling really good about the Packers prospects of moving the football.
The turnover train continues this week. The defense forces two more turnovers.

You know that SF watched TB jump the out pass on 3rd down to Adams earlier this year. So, what is the call? A double move to Adams out of a similar look to the play a couple of weeks earlier. Rodgers even telegraphed it by stating it down pre-snap. 49 yards. Bang! Shortly after, Rodgers hits MVS on a busted play in the corner of the end zone. I love the brains behind this offense.
Was sad to see Dexter Williams go down with what appears to be a serious injury. I really liked him coming out of college. He hasn’t panned out. I was super interested to see how Gutekunst replaced him. He has done well in this fashion previously with additions like Veldheer, Lazard and Ervin. And, this time, Gutekunst has turned to Mike Weber. I had studied him thoroughly coming out of college and here’s what I wrote: “Undersized, but powerful. Dynamite receiving option. He'll make the first person miss in the open field. Plays with both speed and quickness. Runs with great hunger. Bounces off of tackles. He beats defenders to the spot and grabs yards in bundles. Isn't going to be a consistent between the tackles runner. Fumbles too much.”
Wish the Packers would've brought T-Mon back. Wanted him to retire as a Packer.
Halfway through the season and Aaron Rodgers leads the NFL in passer rating.
Yes, it's worth mentioning again, I'm eager to see Lazard back on the field.
With Kirksey on the brink of recovery and Martin activated from the COVID list, Pettine has a choice to make. Barnes has played well. Martin has been intriguing. I’m going to closely monitor how Pettine utilizes his rotation at ILB.
This week - it’s the Jags. At Lambeau. Weather is expected to play a factor. Normally, you’d anticipate that poor weather would benefit the Packers. Not in 2020. The Jaguars aren’t even on the same platform as the Packers. In normal conditions, Green Bay would win by more than 20. But, with heavy winds and precipitation on the horizon, this game plays into Jacksonville’s hands and therefore, the game might be much closer than any of us expect. Granted, there’s almost no way I can see the Jaguars coking into Green Bay and stealing a victory with a back up QB. But, it’s important to recognize that Jacksonville can run the football and Green Bay has shown that they’re extremely vulnerable against the run.
Look for Pettine to stuff the box. He’s going to dare Jacksonville to throw the ball. And, don’t be surprised if early on, the Jags call a play action deep ball to try and take advantage of an early down run blitz. Expect Jacksonville to be a little more aggressive on a couple of occasions than one might normally think.
The Jaguars are bringing Jake Luton into town to take on Aaron Rodgers. That should be all you need to know.
The Packers will need to account for Josh Allen as a pass rusher, but if that mission is accomplished, I'm feeling really good about the Packers prospects of moving the football.
The turnover train continues this week. The defense forces two more turnovers.

My Take -> Week 9
Greetings, G-Force.
Once again, it was on display for the Football world to see. The Green Bay Packers have the same issues in 2020 that they did in 2021. And, over the course of the last year, Gutekunst did nothing to fix them.
As I write, I sip a Green Flash West Coast IPA. It’s been my most frequently consumed beer over the last month or so. A 7.0% hop bomb. I listen to The Movement’s “Ways of the World” album. I love “Take Me to the Ocean.” It brings a relaxing poppy, reggae island sensation.
My quick vibes from the last week:
Once again, Matt LaFleur’s mastery was on display. The offense looked good. Receivers were open. The Packers moved the ball. Even without their superstar LT and RB.
Rodgers wasn’t on target. He played very well. But, his miss to Jace was brutal. And, I wish he’d have been more accurate on the deep ball to Tonyan. Still, Rodgers was mostly dialed in and moving the ball with efficiency.
Davante Adams is truly special.
I remind you to enjoy this season. The roster isn’t constructed in a fashion to have this team compete for a title. But, there’s so much goodness surrounding this team. So, please, appreciate this QB + Head Coach relationship. We might not see something like this for a long time. Cherish it!

When Bakhtiari returns from injury, I hope Wagner stays at RT.
Well. The time came for a WR — other than Davante — to make a play when he wasn’t schemed open. Someone other than Adams. Twice, Rodgers hit ESB in the hands. He dropped them both. From then on, the Packers were playing catch up.
This defense lived off of big plays last year. Turnovers. Sacks to propel the team to get off of the field. Those plays aren’t happening with frequency in 2020.
I've been critical of Gutekunst. But, I applaud his aggressiveness in trying to trade for Will Fuller. If reports are true that they wanted a 2nd round pick, I'm happy that Gutekunst stuck with his guns and didn't bite. Had Fuller's contract not been expiring in 8 games, I'd have traded a 2nd round pick. But, it doesn't make sense to give up significant Draft capital for a rental.
This week - it's the 49ers. In SF. On Thursday Night. Both teams will be a shell of themselves with injuries and COVID playing a major role. It's hard to imagine that these two rosters will be competing in a monstrous NFC battle. It's a game that holds significance importance as the NFC gets conjested with teams between 3 and 5 wins.
While the Packers will be limited at the RB position, they will still have Rodgers, Davante, Tonyan, Jace, and MVS. They might also have Lazard. The 49ers are more decimated than the Packers are and therefore, the Packers should be in better position to win the war of attrition.
Last year, in two games, the Packers had zero answer for the 49ers run game. Expect the 49ers to use Jerick McKinnon and JaMycal Hasty to pound the ball at the Packers defensive front. The 49ers will be without LT Trent Williams. This game is begging for the Smith Bros., Kenny Clark, Gary and Lowry to dominate the line of scrimmage. Shanahan will also utilize play action pass. His receiving options are extremely limited, but look for Richie James to get the ball in open space. James is elusive and can present challenges. Kyle Juszczyk will also be utilized in the flat on the rollout. The 49ers will have Nick Mullens at QB. He's turnover prone. The Packers must force him into mistakes.
The 49ers DL is also beat up. The Packers OL has to give Rodgers protection. Even with the injuries, the 39ers have talent with Armstead, Kinlaw, Jones and Hyder. Jones and Armstead have trashed the Packers in the past. Fred Warner and Dre Greenlaw are superstars at LB.
The Packers must beat SF with protection and crossing routes. I'd also like to see some of Davante Adams at RB where the Packers get him in the ball in the flat on pass plays liked they did in ATL in 2016. On that day, the Packers were without depth at RB. McCarthy moved WR's to RB and used a multitude of passes to WR's out of the backfield. Might we see something similar from LaFleur? One thing is for sure: the Packers can't trust Dexter Williams.
This 49ers team is beat up. If the Packers can jump out to an early lead, this could be a big-time blowout. But, that'll require the Defensive front to show up in the run game. Amazingly so, I think the 49ers are so beat up that the Packers might be able to limit SF's success.
I also think the Packers force at least one turnover and possibly much more.
Expect Rodgers to be dialed in. He hits MVS over the top for a big play.
The Packers get back on track in a big way.

My Take -> Week 8
Greetings, G-Force.
5-1. Another dominant offensive display with a depleted lineup and subpar talent. Packers fans are blessed to have the Aaron Rodgers and Matt LaFleur combination.
While I write, I sip the Sad Panda Coffee Stout. The weather changed last weekend and we are officially entering Stout Season. I listen to the Dave Matthews Band “Busted Stuff” album. I have listened this album in roughly 15 years and it brings me back to a familiar place.
My quick vibes from the last week:
Once again, we were all witnesses to Matt LaFleur’s football brilliance. LaFleur ate the Texans up with rub routes, crossing routes and screens. He also had confidence that Davante Adams couldn’t be covered. LaFleur seems to have fully convinced Rodgers to buy into his scheme. While doing so, Rodgers is running this offense to perfection. Rodgers looks like an MVP. His decision to alter Adams’ route on the 2nd TD is the stuff of Legend.
Davante Adams is mind blowing. He continues to amaze. No one separates off of the line like him.
Jamaal Williams. Playing at another level. Bringing force. Playing quicker. Strong in the receiving game. Earning a contract somewhere.
Patchwork OL? No problem against a Texans team that looks to have quit on the season.
Suddenly, I am holding out big time hopes that the 2020 offseason solved the Packers ILB issues. Barnes continues to impress. Martin won the 1st impression rise with his burst. Both seem to play with thunder.
I’m so happy for Preston Smith. Let’s hope that 4th down play jumpstarts his season.
Raven Greene. Grabbing attention.
The play call on the first play of the 2nd Qtr was absolutely gorgeous. Fake the hand off. Fake the reverse. Drill Adams on a crosser.
This team needs Kenny Clark to be healthy and to find his groove.
If anyone sees Dean Lowry, please send him to 1265 Lombardi Ave.
We haven’t seen a lot of Vernon Scott, but I like what I’ve seen so far.
Henry Black. Things that make you go hmmm.
AJ Dillon didn’t do much, but he looked like he had a pep to his step.
I think Matt LaFleur and Aaron Rodgers are dreaming about calling another play action pass to Davante Adams.
Happy to see Jace and Malik Taylor grab TD’s. Fantastic play design on both TDs. Executed to perfection.
Holding out hope that Jace develops into a legit NFL receiving target. Loved him coming out of college.
The Rodgers celebration after Taylor’s TD is something Taylor will remember forever. Emphatic!
Jaire Alexander has become among the best CB’s in the NFL.
Keke continues to be disruptive.
Don’t overlook the Seth Roberts signing. This team doesn’t need a superstar addition at WR. Already has that guy in Davante. This team needs a guy who can occasionally win a 1 on 1 battle when he isn’t schemed open. Roberts has done that previously out of the slot. That’d be a valuable addition for this offense.
Aaron Rodgers’ stat line at the half was 16-21 for 197 yards, 3 TD’s and 0 interceptions.
Matt LaFleur is so instinctively aggressive that it surprised me to see him take the delay on 4th and 2. Although it’s the logical football move with his team up 14-0 against an inferior opponent, yet it felt uncharacteristic of him.
I still cannot believe that no one has told Pettine to stop dropping Preston Smith into coverage. Would imagine that between Murphy, Ball, Gutekunst and LaFleur; they’ve all seen enough. Can’t someone speak up?
This week - it’s the queens at Lambeau. The queens are 1-5. They're one of two teams with only 1 win in the NFC. But, they've had 2 heart breaking one point losses and they're a better team than their record suggests. Don't get me wrong, their secondary has taken a significant step backwards. And, they can't get to the QB like they have in years past. But, as long as Dalvin Cook is running the ball - which he will be this week - this team can control the clock and own the time of possession. Cook is a super star.
Without the weather being a factor, I'd predict that the Packers would win this one in a landslide. But, with heavy winds and chilly temperatures awaiting, the weather could be an equalizer. Zimmer will have his team fired up for this one. He'd like nothing more than a victory at Lambeau. They'll be in attack mode.
Rodgers has occasionally struggled in windy weather. If he does again on Sunday, they Packers could find themselves in an annoyingly frustrating battle. The game could turn into a test of their mental mettle. If the winds are not as heavy as projected, look for Davante Adams to have a monster performance again. The queens can't cover him.
Expect Jamaal Williams to have a monster performance. I foresee him getting at least 20 touches this weekend.
It'll be a good test for the Packers defensive front to see if they can slow Cook. If so, it's hard to imagine a scenario in which Minnesota can compete.
The Packers must jump out to an early lead. Don't even give Minnesota a sign of life. Let those domers feel the frigid outdoor temps while staring at a 2-score deficit. In the past, when the queens have been down 2-scores, they abandon the run. Let's hope this happens again.
My hunch is that the game has an eerie feeling to it early on. Minnesota hangs around. We might even see Rodgers get a little agitated. But, in the end, the Packers are the better football team. And, Cousins is good for a turnover.

My Take -> Week 7
Greetings, G-Force.
4-1. A brutal loss. Sobering, in fact. After the 1st Quarter, the vibes were high. The the team looked capable of beating anyone in the NFC, anywhere. Then, on one pass, the buzz completely changed. And, suddenly, there was an all too familiar feeling in the air. Once again, the Packers were being physically demolished against an NFC opponent on the road.
As I write, I listen to the Grateful Dead’s 5/23/72 show from the Lyceum Theater in London. I’d encourage everyone to see a show at the Lyceum someday. Beautiful venue. I was fortunate to see the Lion King there on my honeymoon. I sip a 2014 Crooked Stave Autumn Surette. It’s a spiced up, funk bomb of a beer. A light, soft sipper. A true treat.
Here are my quick vibes from the last week:
It’s nearly impossible to hate on LaFleur and Rodgers for the game at Tampa. Gutekunst was exposed for his inability to add anything worthwhile to the right side of the line. Yes, I realize that Lane Taylor got hurt. Gutekunst was exposed for his inability to add a weapon at WR. Yes, I understand Funchess opted out. Gutekunst was exposed for his blatant miss on Josh Jackson. Where was Preston? Where was Za’Darius? Where was Clark? Those were the shortcomings. Not LaFleur and Rodgers. Even when the Packers led 10-0, the Packers were getting manhandled at the line of scrimmage. I hoped the tides would change as the game wore on. They never did.
The pass protection was pathetic. The weaknesses were exposed. Even with poor protection, LaFleur dialed up some decent creativity with near misses to Jones and Adams down the sidelines. There were also had misses to MVS and Lewis over the middle.
Oh well. I’ll take 4-1. I thought the Packers were destined for 7-9 to 9-7 before the season. Feels like this team will compete for the Division throughout a 16-game season. I do struggle with the thought of envisioning the Packers blocking the Bears though. So, less confident in that matchup than I’d like to be.
Krys Barnes continues to impress.
Yes, the Packers need a WR. But, they also need a run stopping DT next to Kenny Clark. They also need a RT. These are major holes on the roster. Lowry never developed like Gutekunst imagined he would. Turner isn’t a high quality starting RT. It’s well documented that Gutekunst flat out ignored the WR position. I’m also really worried about Kevin King’s injury lingering. Josh Jackson isn’t good enough to play on the outside.
I cannot believe that Travis Fulgham was in the Packers camp this year and that he didn’t make this roster. How is that possible?
Maybe I’ve lost my filter throughout 2020, but who are you super stoked about that Gutekunst has added to the offensive side of the ball in his 3 years as GM? Jenkins, yes. I like Lazard. Ervin fits the offense. Maybe we will be thrilled to have Deguara, Dillon or Runyan in the future? But, man, it’s tough to chew on that thought.
Again, I’m fired up that the Packers are 4-1. The LaFleur and Rodgers combination is dialed in. We are fortunate to have them. If the starters can stay healthy, we have the makings of a really enjoyable season ahead of us. LaFleur and Rodgers are simply smarter than their competition.
Gutekunst should offer a 5th round pick to the Giants for Golden Tate.
This week - it’s the Texans. You’d think this would be an easy victory for the Packers with all of the holes on the Texans roster. Not so fast. The Texans aren’t a very good team, but their strengths are the Packers weakness. And, the Packers injuries are going to show the limited depth on the roster.
Watson is an elite QB. But, he’s playing with a below average OL. The Smith Bros. must dominate. Kenny Clark must be the most physical player on the line of scrimmage. Gary must make a play. Watson is elusive and will make plays with his feet. The Packers have to contain him and keep him in the pocket. If not, I fear that Will Fuller could have a monster game. Darren Fells will also test the Packers ability to cover the TE. You know that Randall Cobb is going to show up with his best effort. David Johnson has had big games against the Packers in the past.
How in the world will the Packers try to block JJ Watt? I mean, shouldn’t Houston just line Watt up against Lucas Patrick and Mercilus against Turner? You’d think the Texans would win that side of the ball more often than not.
Romeo Crennel has a history with the Green Bay Packers. I was at the game when he was named interim Head Coach for the Chiefs and the Chiefs beat the 13-0 Packers in Kansas City. I imagine that Crennel will draft up a similiar game plan as he did that day. He'll eat up the clock. He'll slow the game down. He'll work to keep Rodgers off of the field. And, then, he's going to expect his front 4 to win the battle on defense and drop 7 into coverage. He'll occasionally send a 5th man on the blitz, but for the most part, he'll trust his defensive front to be the more dominant match-up.
Rodgers is going to have to be patient. He'll have to use the checkdown to Williams and Jones. Assuming Jones plays.
The Texans don't have anyone to cover Adams on the outside of the ball. I'd love to see a double move to Adams. It'll result in a big play.
I expect the Smith Bros. to each grab a sack. I also expect Jaire to snag an interception.
This one will be a nail biter. It'll be frustrating at times as the defense struggles to get off of the field. But, in the end, the Rodgers and LaFleur combination will be too good.

4-1. A brutal loss. Sobering, in fact. After the 1st Quarter, the vibes were high. The the team looked capable of beating anyone in the NFC, anywhere. Then, on one pass, the buzz completely changed. And, suddenly, there was an all too familiar feeling in the air. Once again, the Packers were being physically demolished against an NFC opponent on the road.
As I write, I listen to the Grateful Dead’s 5/23/72 show from the Lyceum Theater in London. I’d encourage everyone to see a show at the Lyceum someday. Beautiful venue. I was fortunate to see the Lion King there on my honeymoon. I sip a 2014 Crooked Stave Autumn Surette. It’s a spiced up, funk bomb of a beer. A light, soft sipper. A true treat.
Here are my quick vibes from the last week:
It’s nearly impossible to hate on LaFleur and Rodgers for the game at Tampa. Gutekunst was exposed for his inability to add anything worthwhile to the right side of the line. Yes, I realize that Lane Taylor got hurt. Gutekunst was exposed for his inability to add a weapon at WR. Yes, I understand Funchess opted out. Gutekunst was exposed for his blatant miss on Josh Jackson. Where was Preston? Where was Za’Darius? Where was Clark? Those were the shortcomings. Not LaFleur and Rodgers. Even when the Packers led 10-0, the Packers were getting manhandled at the line of scrimmage. I hoped the tides would change as the game wore on. They never did.
The pass protection was pathetic. The weaknesses were exposed. Even with poor protection, LaFleur dialed up some decent creativity with near misses to Jones and Adams down the sidelines. There were also had misses to MVS and Lewis over the middle.
Oh well. I’ll take 4-1. I thought the Packers were destined for 7-9 to 9-7 before the season. Feels like this team will compete for the Division throughout a 16-game season. I do struggle with the thought of envisioning the Packers blocking the Bears though. So, less confident in that matchup than I’d like to be.
Krys Barnes continues to impress.
Yes, the Packers need a WR. But, they also need a run stopping DT next to Kenny Clark. They also need a RT. These are major holes on the roster. Lowry never developed like Gutekunst imagined he would. Turner isn’t a high quality starting RT. It’s well documented that Gutekunst flat out ignored the WR position. I’m also really worried about Kevin King’s injury lingering. Josh Jackson isn’t good enough to play on the outside.
I cannot believe that Travis Fulgham was in the Packers camp this year and that he didn’t make this roster. How is that possible?
Maybe I’ve lost my filter throughout 2020, but who are you super stoked about that Gutekunst has added to the offensive side of the ball in his 3 years as GM? Jenkins, yes. I like Lazard. Ervin fits the offense. Maybe we will be thrilled to have Deguara, Dillon or Runyan in the future? But, man, it’s tough to chew on that thought.
Again, I’m fired up that the Packers are 4-1. The LaFleur and Rodgers combination is dialed in. We are fortunate to have them. If the starters can stay healthy, we have the makings of a really enjoyable season ahead of us. LaFleur and Rodgers are simply smarter than their competition.
Gutekunst should offer a 5th round pick to the Giants for Golden Tate.
This week - it’s the Texans. You’d think this would be an easy victory for the Packers with all of the holes on the Texans roster. Not so fast. The Texans aren’t a very good team, but their strengths are the Packers weakness. And, the Packers injuries are going to show the limited depth on the roster.
Watson is an elite QB. But, he’s playing with a below average OL. The Smith Bros. must dominate. Kenny Clark must be the most physical player on the line of scrimmage. Gary must make a play. Watson is elusive and will make plays with his feet. The Packers have to contain him and keep him in the pocket. If not, I fear that Will Fuller could have a monster game. Darren Fells will also test the Packers ability to cover the TE. You know that Randall Cobb is going to show up with his best effort. David Johnson has had big games against the Packers in the past.
How in the world will the Packers try to block JJ Watt? I mean, shouldn’t Houston just line Watt up against Lucas Patrick and Mercilus against Turner? You’d think the Texans would win that side of the ball more often than not.

My Take -> Week 6
Greetings, G-Force.
4-0. Firing on all offensive cylinders. The defense continues to find a way to make enough plays on defense to get the ball back to the offense. And, thus far, the high-powered offense has been able to consistently make it a 2-score game.
As I write, I’m sipping a Toppling Goliath Mornin’ Latte Imperial Coffee Milk Stout. It’s 8.9%. Silky coffee flavor. With a creamy milk body. Goes down way too easy. If you see it, grab it. It won’t disappoint. I’m listening to the Johnny Adams “Turning Point” album. It brings a great combination of soul + jazz + early funk. The more I dive into his music, the more I love it. I really enjoy grooving to “Feel the Beat, Feel the Heat.” I believe that this vibe is a must own for any die hard record collector. The Soul 70 - 7” box set is really terrific. It gave me the introduction to his music.
My quick vibes from the last week:
Matt LaFleur is continuing to show himself as an elite play caller. He’s brimming with confidence. He’s in control. He’s putting his weapons in position to run free in the open field. Yards after the catch are coming easily due to the design of the play. Right now, I believe that he’s the Coach of the Year in the NFL.
Aaron Rodgers. Right now, it’s a 2-man race for the NFL’s MVP: Russell Wilson and Aaron Rodgers.
Za’Darius Smith. Just eating. Showing leadership. Dominating. A 1-man wrecking crew.
Big Bob Tonyan. Yes, the three TD’s were spectacular. But, the thing that is mind blowing for me is just how versatile he’s become. He can stand up as a receiver in the slot. He can play the H-Back role. He can line up out wide. He can live up tight to the formation. He can line up one step off the line of scrimmage with his hand in the turf. His versatility is a tremendous weapon in this offense.
Speaking of versatility, how about Jamaal Williams? He’s reinvented himself.
Krys Barnes is highly entertaining. He’s unquestionably the most physical ILB that the Packers have had since Desmond Bishop. He’s a presence in the middle of the field. I absolutely love the way he seeks contact on the blitz. He can get sideline to sideline. He attacks. I wish he’d have made the interception to cement a fantastic Prime Time performance. I’m not ready to crown him as a full-fledged legitimate starting ILB, but if he continues to throw forearms into people, I’m going to be all-in. He’s quickly becoming a favorite of mine.
A defining series of downs in the 2020 season started with 1:16 to play in the 2nd Quarter. It was 2nd and 17. LaFleur calls 4 wide with Rodgers in shotgun. Williams to his right. 2 receivers split to both sides of the field. Grady Jarrett blows past Jenkins for what appears to be an easy sack to seemingly end the drive. But somehow, Rodgers keeps his balance and has the awareness to flip the ball to Williams for a gain of 2. Then, on 3rd and 15, LaFleur again calls 4 wide, Rodgers in shotgun and Williams to his right. This time, 3 of the receivers are to the strong side of the field. LaFleur designs a screen to the weak side just to get the Packers into FG range. But, Williams forcefully powers forward for a 13-yard gain. In 4th and 2, LaFleur stays aggressive. Holding a 13-3 lead and in FG range, LaFleur boastfully goes for it. Again, he has 4 receivers standing up, but this time they’re all right to the formation with three of them to the strong side of the field. Rodgers again in shotgun with Williams to his right. The bunch formation to the strong side of the field creates both confusion and a natural pick. Malik Taylor is wide open for a 21 yard gain. One play later, it’s Rodgers to Big Bob Tonyan for an 8-yard TD on 1st and goal. And, a 2nd Quarter dagger to the hearts of a defeated Falcons team.
What do you think Jordy Nelson, Jermichael Finley, James Jones, Donald Driver, Greg Jennings, Randall Cobb, Geronimo Allison, Andrew Quarless, Jarrett Boykin and Davante Adams thought about that MVS back shoulder attempt in the end zone? Hell, Myles White would’ve caught that. Rodgers has made a Hall of Fame career throwing that exact same pass. On Monday Night Football, his #1 WR was incapable of making a play on a perfectly thrown back shoulder pass. Yet, the Packers still scored 30 points? Unbelievable.
Can you imagine if this team had another legitimate option at WR? Ponder just how amazing this LaFleur and Rodgers combination would be if they had a WR who could adjust mid play on the back shoulder throw. Consider what this offense could do if this offense had another WR who had the body control to adjust and make a play on the ball in the air. Maybe Funchess was supposed to be that guy, but still I am baffled as to how Chase Claypool wasn’t the selection. On April 4th and 5th, on Twitter, I wrote twice how I wanted Claypool as the 1st round pick. He seemed like a Gutekunst style of WR as well. Maybe ESB can develop as the year progresses, but Claypool felt like a ready-made NFL product. He’s proving to be that way as well. It’s possible that we will be grateful that Jordan Love is a Packer in 5 years, but over the next 5 months, the Packers would be legitimate favorites in the NFC with another WR.
Add this to the 2020 oddity: the NFC might never be this up for grabs again. Gone are the wild crowds in Seattle and New Orleans. Minnesota is in rebuild mode. LA’s weapons on offense don’t strike fear into you. The NFC EAST looks brutal and is now without Dak. Tampa Bay will be a threat as they continue to get accustomed to playing together, but they have serious holes on the OL. The Bears are 4-1, but it feels like their offense won’t be enough to sustain a playoff run. Gutekunst must find another target at WR. And, that option doesn’t need to be any better than Jake Kumerow. I really hope ESB can be that player. Carpe diem, Gutekunst!

Rodgers and LaFleur are smiling wildly right now. In lockstep.

Liked LaFleur’s creativity when he put Wagner in as a Tackle eligible with Big Dog being out with injury. This team is so well coached that Shepherd even displayed the awareness to slide back to make sure that he didn’t illegally line up with too many players at the line of scrimmage. Tonyan did the same. On offense, this team is playing with a remarkable attention to detail. Matt LaFleur is a Football Teacher.
I’d like to see LaFleur design a play with 2-TE. Split Jace to the outside. I’d be curious to see how a defense would cover Jace in man coverage. Would they do so with a Safety or a LB? If so, their could be an opportunity down the sideline for a big play in man coverage. Jace looks like an imposing target. I’d like to see him on a jump ball or a back shoulder throw.
Preston Smith could use a date with Jobu.
I’m continuing to like what I see from Keke.
I thought Lancaster had his best game of the year.
Raven Greene brings very good energy to the field. Unlike Josh Jackson, he’s fearless. Greene seeks contact.
I like Ty Summers’ speed, but man, it’s difficult to watch him try to tackle. It defeats me that Oren Burks can’t beat him out.
Can’t wait for this team to get Clark, Gary and Adams back.
I can’t imagine this team without Aaron Jones and David Bakhtiari. They need to be signed.
Mason Crosby drilling the FG to make it a 2-TD game is so clutch and often forgotten.
Gutting to see Josiah Deguara get hurt for the year on a meaningless punt. Had high hopes for him.
Will Redmond isn’t a starter in the NFL, but he’s a highly valuable depth player. Championship teams have a Will Redmond on their roster.
Interesting that Gutekunst brought in Alvin Jones, Aaron’s twin, as a tryout player. I’d love to see the Packers do with Jones what the Bucks are doing with the Greek Freak. Sign the brother. Hope that helps with negotiations. And, really, what’s wrong with having Alvin as a Practice Squad player? Negotiate that into Aaron’s contract. I kid, I kid. But, maybe?
This week - it’s the Bucs in Tampa. Admittedly, I’m really worried about this game. The Bucs appear to be healthy at WR again. With Godwin and Evans, that’s dangerous. Also, don’t overlook the weather. The October humidity in Florida has a way of eating you up.
Tampa has a great run defense. They’ll test the potency of the Packers running attack.
I loved Carlton Davis coming out of college. The Davis v Adams match-up on the outside will be defining.
As fans, let’s embrace this matchup. Let’s cherish the opportunity to see Rodgers v Brady as a QB battle.
Ronald Jones is running like a man on a mission. He will challenge the Packers defensive front.
Rob Gronkowski isn’t what he used to be, but he will still test the Packers ability to cover the TE.
Cameron Brate is among the most underrated TE’s in football.
Brady has always loved the slot WR. Scott Miller fills that role really well.
The weakness on Tampa Bay is their OL. The Packers DL must control the line of scrimmage and get to Brady early in the game. If not, the Packers will be playing from behind early.
The Packers need Kevin King to be healthy this weekend.
